Turkey Day

Hi!

Just wanted to wish everyone a wonderful (American) holiday weekend. We'll be eating all kinds of shit.

A quick few words: our compilation "Modern Gnart" is ready for purchase on the shop page. Hope you love them! Also White Fang has a new 7" on Marriage Records that you can order from them (www.marriagerecs.com) or from the band at one of their upcoming shows (www.whtfng.com) in Portland this month. They also have some new shirts too! Both of those will be available on the White Fang site next month. They're new LP is on the way from Marriage also. More on that in a few weeks.

Some new tapes on the way before the year is over from White Rainbow, Jib Kidder, The Memories, Ghost Mom, maybe more. Waiting on the music from Timmy the Terror and the Winter Coats, but those guys are scattered and probably won't have their album out until January probably.

That's all I can think of for now. Have a good weekend!

white fang tour day 4: Tucson, AZ

Hello everyone! I'm typing this on my phone in our room at the hotel congress in sunny tucson, arizona. This is day 4 of our wild weeklong tour with the thermals. Tonight we're playing downstairs at club congress. Isn't that nice?

I just wanted to tell you about a few things. Our band White Fang has a new 7" called "Younger" on the ever wonderful Marriage Records. It was recorded by Adam Forkner of White Rainbow at the one and only Marriage studio in rainy southeast Portland's industrial district.

Also we'll have copies of our new LP "Grateful to Shred" really soon too which you'll be able to order from Marriage or purchase from one of the many lovely record and tape shops around Portland.

Tomorrow we play in San Diego at a bar called the Casbah.

Ok love!

Ps there's a whole bunch of rad live videos of gnar and non-gnar bands at indierocksucks.blogspot.com if you are trying to get deeper.

Modern Gnart / White Fang On Tour

Just wanted to let Portland people know that the Fall 2010 Gnar Tapes Compilation, hereby referred to as Modern Gnart, is available at various record and tape shops around town. It was included as a party favor, along with a t-shirt and drink tickets, at our Halloween themed showcase, Night of the Living Shred, last month. It features 17 bands (one of which didn't want to be included, as it turns out) that may or may not have, or ever will, put out a Gnar Tape. All of these songs up until this point have not been released and some may never leave this tape. This tape features more on pop and rock based material from French Dad, White Fang, BOOM!, The Memories, Timmy the Terror and the Winter Coats, The Mean Jeans, Shapes, Guantanamo Baywatch, Unkle Funkle, Erik Gage, The Woolen Men, Ghost Mom, Scavenger Cunt, Burning Yellows, Colleen Green, and White Rainbow.

Right now it's only available in Portland and on tour with White Fang next week.

Monday 11/15/10 - San Francisco, CA @ The Independent
Tuesday 11/16/10 - Los Angeles, CA @ El Rey Theatre
Wednesday 11/17/10 - Phoenix, AZ @ Rhythm Room
Thursday 11/18/10 - Tucson, AZ @ Club Congress
Friday 11/19/10 - San Diego, CA @ Casbah

HIGH TIMES

DUDES! Thanks to everyone who made NIGHT OF THE LIVING SHRED one of the best parties ever thrown. Hundreds of people came and everyone got wasted. All the bands played shredfully and the Legendary Juice Team DJs killed it with gusto. Let's do it again real soon!

But for now let's talk about another Gnar Tapes related show coming up this weekend at our favorite all ages venue The Artistery. Our friends from Denver, CO have a rad band called Woodsman and they're coming to town on the 6th. Our very own Timmy the Terror and the Winter Coats will also provide their trademark sonic freakout sideshow performance to the night, alongside Gauntlet Hair who I've heard is also sick.

Cool see ya there!

NIGHT OF THE LIVING SHRED

ATTENTION ALLLLL GNAR HEADS!

On OCTOBER 30th 2010 at a warehouse on the border between the suburbs and industrial districts of southeast Portland GNAR TAPES will be having it's first ever showcase. The bands that are playing this event are: BOOM!, Guantanamo Baywatch, Burning Yellows, Sexhair, The Memories (members of White Fang and BOOM!), Timmy the Terror and the Winter Coats, and Rob Walmart. The Legendary Juice Team DJs (Claire of YACHT and Steve of States Rights Records) will be there too.

The cost is a measly $10 and the party favors for the first 100 people include a commemorative t-shirt, a copy of the new GNAR TAPES compilation, and a cup for which to drink from the kegs that are being provided by the owners of the warehouse, woodworking company Von Tundra. (This is the first in a series of shows before their warehouse is DEMOLISHED to make way for the new MAX train line.)

This is the first official announcement and more specific details will follow. If you have any questions or anything you'd like to say about this you can email us at the usual places.

Hope to see you there!

FUCK YEAH!

Hey amigos! The new tapes are all ready to go! We're just finishing up writing the descriptions and taking pictures of them, so they should be up sometime within the next day or so. But we kind of suck at timelines. SOOOOO we'll just say soon. BUT if you are in Portland, or are planning to come this way, you can find the White Fang, Guantanamo Baywatch, The Woolen Men, Diamond Catalog, and Adrian Orange tapes, as well as a few more of The Whines in various availabilities at The Biz, Exiled Records, Mississippi Records, Green Noise Records, and Microcosm Books. Also the Sexhair, Burning Yellows, and Travis Wiggins tapes are almost ready and will follow shortly after. However both of Purple Rhinestone Eagle's tapes (the 50 run reissue of their first tape and the 100 run of their new album) are delayed due to complications that are completely within our fault. We apologize profusely. However we are very stoked to tell you that all these tapes (excluding the Purple Rhinestone Eagle reissue, Burning Yellows and Travis Wiggins) are each pro-dubbed, pro-printed and contain a complete high quality download of the music contained therein. And it's the same seven dollar bargain price. Can you dig it?

NEW TAPES NEXT WEEK

Hello all! It's been a minute. Thanks to anyone who came out to see White Fang and Sexhair on their short tour last month. So cool to see all of you.

But I have some exciting news for you hep-cats and tally-whackers: Gnar Tapes is proud to announce a massive seven tape run of fully professionally dubbed and printed tapes. This exciting release will contain: Purple Rhinestone Eagle, White Fang, Guantanamo Baywatch, Diamond Catalog, Sexhair, The Woolen Men and, finally breaking his widely sympathized spell of silence, we will be offering two new tapes from Adrian Orange of Marriage and K Records reknown. All of these tapes will come equipped with digital downloads as well, and will still be offered at our usual comprehensive seven dollar price.

Hope you're ready!

Music From Saharan Cellphones Vol. 1

Picked up one of these at Exiled Records the other day. It's pretty wild. From what I gather it's music that people listen to off of their phones in the desert regions of the Sahara. Rad mix of pre-recorded beats, traditional singing, with like autotune and other weird stuff. Lots of that Saharan style fingerpicking electric blues guitar. There's even a few pop songs and a rap track. I don't know where you can get it online. I know dude just moved to Portland and started dropping them off at a few stores. Exiled might still have some. I saw a few at The Biz too. I assume Mississippi would have them, but I haven't checked. It's only $3 too! Which is like, you know. Highly recommended.

Gnar Tapes Update August 5th

Howdy y'all! It's been a few minutes since we had some new tapes up and I'm stoked to tell you that we FINALLY have new tapes from the Mean Jeans, Kusikia and The Shivas. Because of how long it took us to post these tapes, and because we have been distributing all of them at various stores in Portland, our inventory has been quickly shrinking. If you live in Portland or if you're in town you could pick up tapes at Exiled Records on 47th and Hawthorne, Green Noise Records on 26th and Clinton, Mississippi Records on Mississippi and Shaver, The Biz on 43rd and Division, Microcosm Books on 9th and Main, Nationale on 8th and Burnside and Rad Summer on 28th and Burnside. Get to it! Real soon we'll have a few more of The Whines demos tapes and the first Purple Rhinestone Eagle tape. Talk soon. Love you. XOXO GNAR
